We moved to Wortwell just over 3 years ago when our first daughter was almost 2 years old and I was 5 months pregnant with our second daughter. I grew up in Suffolk and Lawrence is from Surrey. We met rock climbing at an indoor climbing centre in Guildford, near to where we both lived at the time.
One Christmas, Lawrence received a home-brew kit and he made a small batch of beer. We called it 'New Born Ale' to celebrate the birth of our first daughter. The beer tasted surprisingly good for a first attempt, and kicked off an obsession to discover and learn all about beer and how it is made.
Lawrence spent many evenings home-brewing in our garage. I started to brew with him as well, and we began to document our journey in brewing. We loved trying beers from other breweries and caught on to the craft beer scene. We started to drink and explore beers of different styles and flavours (triple hopped IPA or tiramsu stout anyone!).
When Lawrence's job came to an end in December 2020 due to Covid-19, we decided to take the plunge and set up a business. I went on a course to help us work out the business plan, and then we set to work on building the website and working with local breweries to finalise the stock. It's been incredibly hard work but really fun too.
We have a strong vision to work with East Anglian microbreweries who are producing exceptional craft beer and help them get better known, both locally and across the UK. We want to help our customers experience beer in new ways and think more about what they drink. In the future we'd love to get a physical shop where you could visit, have a taster whilst choosing your beers or come to a tasting event.
We launched in mid-Feb and people seem really excited about having local beers available and supporting a small business. We hope you'll try some soon. Find out more about us at www.twistedhops.co.uk.
Cheers, Sarah and Lawrence
